The strangeness surrounding the future of Tollerton Airfield continues. The massive house-building corporation, Vistry, who seem to have trouble finding their arse and differentiating it from their elbow, continue to slip and slide their way through what should be a straightforward navigation.
Not content with having fencing erected over land that doesn’t actually belong to Vistry (you couldn’t really make this up, could you?), Vistry have issued a press release saying they’re going to put a team of (wait for it) ecologists onto the site.
The history of RAF Tollerton is well known and documented yet Vistry seem intent on continuing to press on with their ill-conceived plan to build a couple of thousand houses on contaminated land.
It seems logical, to most people, that what needs to happen is a full, detailed, independent and invasive survey must be carried out on the airfield. We, the local population (and the people who might buy Vistry’s homes on the airfield – if they are ever built) need to know what digging up the airfield means for our health, and for the health of our children and our grandchildren. But Vistry doesn’t see it that way. They are talking about putting a team of ecologists in there. That seems… unusual thinking.
