A new reader writes in with a question:
I’ll start by saying I served in the Royal Air Force for ten years, 9 of those years were on the cold war front-line where things happened I can’t tell you about. But this isn’t about any of those things.
Every Remembrance Sunday Tollerton Lane is closed to facilitate the parade down to the war memorial and the open air church service.
Medina Drive serves c. 1,800 households (I may be wrong but I don’t think I am far out). So to avoid blocking access, Medina isn’t closed to access.
But here’s my point.
The parade marshal allows the composite parts of the parade to form up on Medina Drive – i.e. on the road in the face of live traffic. This doesn’t strike me as sensible.
Surely it would be less hazardous to form the parade within the section of Tollerton Lane that is closed to traffic, rather than in a live road?
