I just want to state a few facts. These are incontrovertible and unarguable facts.
- PFAS do not break down. They do not dilute. They do not diminish
- Once PFAS are in your body, they stay there until you die
- PFAS are carcinogenic
Anyone who argues against these things is a dangerous, deluded person who is in desperate need of education.
PFAS were extensively used on the southern end of the former RAF Tollerton. They were an ingredient in fire-retardant foams on a portion of the airfield given over to fire training. These, too, are facts.
The run-off from the southern end of the airfield is into the brook. Several large drainage pipes, carrying airfield water from various sources, also run into the brook. The brook feeds into the Trent.
Water is extracted from the Trent at Stoke Bardolph STW and Radcliffe-on-Trent WWTW, where it is treated and then fed back to the good people of Rushcliffe.
Except… PFAS can’t be taken out of water. It’s a contamination which stays resident, even after treatment has been completed.
And yet Rushcliffe Borough Council has not investigated the risk of PFAS to its own residents (and its own workforce) from the airfield even though it is a known and documented source of PFAS contamination. This is staggering.
