Parish Council (yay)

It’s time to stand up and applaud Tollerton parish council (TPC). Instead of rolling over in the face of some seriously unfriendly and boorish actions from officers of Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC), the parish council are digging in and preparing for a fight.

The egregious supplementary planning document (SPD) which RBC have inflicted on the world (actually, a number of us don’t believe it was written by professional planning officers, it’s too full of errors and lacks reams of basic information; the SPD is of such poor quality, it’s almost as if was written by the developers and handed to RBC to distribute on their behalf) is in for a fight from the locals.

And now the parish council seem to be of the same mind. TPC are squaring up for a toe-to-toe confrontation with RBC and, if necessary, take RBC to a judicial review. These are welcome actions. There is also another organisation in the village consulting lawyers and fund-raising (through a nicely-secretive national campaign) to lodge a legal challenge to RBC.

My friend, who works at Rushcliffe Arena, tells me there have been 2 panic meetings between RBC officers and the developers in the 3 days since RBCs ‘consultation’. Apparently the demonstration against building houses on contaminated land – and the well-aired and passionate speech, and the views of the informed protesters who spoke to RBC officers and members of the public – have all combined to spook RBC.
